GPSRReady diagnostic methodology
This document describes the inputs, weights, limits and regulatory scope of the GPSR scoring model used by GPSRReady.
Analytical assessment only — not a legally binding classification. Scope: EU/EEA, GPSR Reg. (EU) 2023/988.
Scope and jurisdiction
The diagnostic covers obligations arising from Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety (GPSR), applicable since 13 December 2024.
Geographic scope: EU and EEA. Specific obligations may vary by country of sale, product type and distribution channel.
This model does not cover sector-specific regulations (toys, electronics, medical devices, food) that apply in addition to GPSR.
Model inputs
The diagnostic uses 7 declarative questions covering: role in the supply chain, EU responsible person, supplier traceability, product risk assessment, marketplace process, Safety Business Gateway and compliance documentation.
- Role (marketplace, importer, DTC, reseller) — weight: 3 to 8 risk points based on exposure.
- EU responsible person — weight: 0 (documented), 18 (partial), 30 (missing).
- Supplier traceability — weight: 0 (complete), 14 (partial), 24 (missing).
- Risk assessment — weight: 0 (documented), 16 (informal), 26 (missing).
- Marketplace process — weight: 0 (ready), 12 (partial), 22 (missing).
- Safety Business Gateway — weight: 0 (ready), 10 (known not tested), 18 (unknown).
- Compliance documentation — weight: 0 (centralised), 12 (scattered), 20 (missing).
Score calculation
Readiness score = 100 minus the sum of risk points across 7 dimensions.
Levels: ≥ 78 = Solid readiness; 52–77 = Partial readiness (attention); < 52 = High risk (critical).
The score is calculated server-side, in real time, without persisting individual answers.
Model limits
The score is based on unverified declarative responses. It reflects the user's perception of readiness, not an actual audit.
The model does not assess sector-specific regulations, tax obligations or product-level compliance.
A high score does not equal certified compliance. Each business remains responsible for verifying regulatory adequacy with a qualified professional.
Review and versioning

Any change to the model (weights, questions, levels) is versioned. Regulatory sources are available on the Sources & References page.
